Love Note #86: no, Jill, you're not gonna end up in tax jail
and other things I have told myself this week
Every year, at some point during tax season, I find myself anxious that, ever so suddenly, I have done something illegal or become a person who lies about everything on their taxes and, see you later, I must be headed to tax jail because I’m doing all the bad things.
I have been an adult filing taxes for a long time. Never once have I done anything illegal. (I don’t think.) Never once have I just…NOT done my taxes or done some sort of bad thing. In fact, there are times that my husband will say to me: Jill. That’s a business expense. You need to include that on our taxes. My response: But are you sure? I wrote personal things in this planner, too. I’m not sure it counts anymore. It’s kinda like the feeling I get while standing in the TSA line at the airport fretting that I might've left a water bottle in my backpack…or the assault rifle I don’t even own.
Okay, that’s quite an exaggeration but you can see how doing taxes with me might test every ounce of patience you have.
So here are the things I’m telling myself these few weeks: SELF…you have professionals handling your taxes, settle down. If you make a mistake, forget something or include something you shouldn’t YOU CAN FILE A CORRECTION OR REVISION AND YOU REALLY NEED TO STOP WORRYING ABOUT ENDING UP IN TAX JAIL. Also, you don’t own any assault rifles and water bottles can be thrown away, they’re still gonna let you on the plane.
Sometimes pep talks look like that, guys.
But enough about me and my tax fears, how are you? How are you and YOUR tax fears? Tell me everything. Really. I must know.
✨Song of the Week!✨
I fell in love with the Ridiculously Joyful Fall playlist and, not gonna lie, it felt like we all needed an equally lovely spring playlist. I’m not ready to declare that it’s on the same level as RJF but I’m quite happy with it. So, just in time for this first week of Spring 2022, may I introduce you to The Ridiculously Joyful SPRING Playlist? ☀️
(I hope you love it. I hope it doesn’t suck.)😬🤣
✨JOY From the Internet!✨
I perpetually need a nap and I’m trying to get back to regularly scheduled programming. I’m gonna get back to it, I just know it.
In the meantime…
☀️ This week I am all done:
☀️ Dogs in shirts. I have nothing more to add:
☀️ Abbreviation is serious business:
☀️ So it telling time and bedtimes:
☀️ Office supplies bring me joy and I could’ve filmed this.
☀️ This is so silly. And I wish it didn’t make me laugh BUT IT DID:
☀️ One of my favorite views in the world is the “layers” view of mountain ranges. I don’t know if there is a better way to explain this but that’s what I call it. And while we’re talking about it, have we talked about my slight panic of the flat nothingness of a Texas view? Whoever called it “hill country” has some ‘splaining to do. I missed my mountain ranges. At any rate, my friend Francisco has this print in his shop and now you know what I’m getting myself for an early birthday present. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
☀️ This made my heart smile (and also made me feel like crying?):
☀️ And we’ll just end it here with this gold nugget of funny:
✨Inexplicable Joy✨
This love note is embarrassingly late. This isn’t news and there really is no reason to point it out except sometimes it’s hard to show up. But this reminder of hope, community and gratitude, just to name a few, is why this space means so much to me.
☀️ The need we have for community and this is beautiful.
☀️ Gratitude for life
☀️ Ear for the Holy Spirit
☀️ And then this beautiful reminder:
Our “daily” prayer for the week:
Our Father
Lord, may our prayers be found in our actions today as much as they are found in these words. Amen.
Sending all the love to all of you…I hope this week has brought spots of joy and incredibly amounts of love.
💛 Love, Jill
p.s. I love leaving little pictures of joy from the week. Today on my walk I found so much joy in my neighbor’s front yard planters. I mean, COME ON. I hope it makes you smile…
Oh, my goodness Jill! I really thought I was the only one who freaks out about taxes and TSA. We really are such perfectionist rule followers aren't we? Great newsletter as always!
